SMG Resourcing the Region delivers another $50,000 to Mid West community

Sinosteel Midwest Group (SMG) has committed more than $50,000 to Mid West community initiatives in the latest round of its Resourcing the Region sponsorship program.

The recipients include:

  • Shire of Cue (Cue Outback Triathlon)
  • Shire of Meekatharra (Meekatharra Festival)
  • Geraldton Regional Community Education Centre (2011 Mid West Science Forum)
  • Midlands Regional Football Development Council (Development Program)
  • Foodbank of WA, Geraldton Branch (Operation Reset Care Packs)
  • MidWest Cricket Board (Development Program)

Mid West Western Australian Cricket Association CSBP Regional Cricket Officer Ben McMillan said they were thrilled to receive 3 year funding from SMG.

“The funding will go towards our Emerging Warriors and Rising Fury programs, providing the Mid West’s young cricketers – both boys and girls – the opportunity for top class coaching and the chance to challenge themselves amongst other talented players in their peer group. These programs also act as feeders into the State league and so they’re vital for the future of our State and national teams,” Ben said.

According to SMG External Relations Manager Danielle Van Kampen, the company is proud to be able to contribute to the Mid West community through these sponsorships.

“It’s vital that communities in regional areas have the same opportunities available to them as bigger cities, and we believe that providing this support is an important way for us to be able to contribute and help make that happen,” Danielle said.

To ensure this support flows into the community when it is needed, SMG has restructured the format of its Resourcing the Region sponsorship program to allow them to assess applications on a monthly basis.

“Previously we had a call for applications three times a year however by assessing the applications on a monthly basis this will help us to keep in contact with the community and respond more directly to events in the region,” Danielle said.
