Koolanooka Hematite

SMG’s Koolanooka Direct Shipping Iron Ore (DSO) Project completed operations in 2013 and since has been extensively rehabilitated. SMG’s rehabilitation effort has included teaming up with Botanic Parks and Gardens Authority (BPGA) for a research project.

The partnership with BPGA extended over a period of 5 years and involved seed collection and analysis, propagation, soli ecology, planting and monitoring of growth of plants culminating in the production of a Rehabilitation Manual which has set standards for BIF rehabilitation.

SMG has also committed to continue mine site rehabilitation research with the Australian Research Council, Mine Site Restoration Project, which will build on the successful research undertaken by the Kings Park.
