Sinosteel Midwest Group comprises Sinosteel Midwest Corporation (SMC), Crosslands Resources Pty Ltd (CR) and Oakajee Port and Rail Pty Ltd (OPR). The group is wholly owned by Sinosteel Corporation and is active in the development, mining and processing of metallurgical mineral resources in the Midwest region of Western Australia.
Key projects areas include Koolanooka, Blue Hills, Weld Range and Jack Hills Site. The SMG has one of the largest landholdings in the Midwest region, and is committed to becoming a major producer of iron ore through the responsible development of its assets.
The Weld Range Project is SMG’s flagship 300Mt hematite (DSO) project. It has all environmental and heritage approvals required to commence the project and a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) has been completed. It is located 50km NW of Cue.
A further 90kms North is Jack Hills Expansion Project (JHEP), which has a 3.8 billion tonne magnetite resource, with all environmental and heritage approvals to start the project. A Bankable Feasibility Study was completed 2013. The projects are key pieces in the pipeline of projects under development investigation by SMG in the Mid West Region.
A BFS for Oakajee Port and Rail (OPR) was completed in 2011. OPR holds federal environment development approval. A detailed design of an in-land rail corridor to Weld Range and Jack Hills iron ore mines has been completed.
SMG is currently progressing the approvals process to enable SMC to restart its Blue Hills Project. The project will provide significant social, economic and environmental benefits for the local community and greater Mid West region.
