SMC Resourcing the Region

SMC managers will be rolling up their sleeves this week to pitch in and help Foodbank assemble care packs for Midwest youth as part of the Operation Reset program.

The SMC Resourcing the Region sponsorship funds will assist MRDC to deliver the Perth Football Club Robert Wiley Country Academy program, which encourages local Midlands children to participate in sport to improve general fitness, social and community skills.

SMC Mining Manager Scott Whitehead and External Relations Manager Danielle van Kampen will team up with the Geraldton Foodbank and the Operation Reset team on Thursday 13 October to experience first-hand the good work they do.

"SMC is committed to providing financial support to community projects throughout the Midwest, but it really is great to be able to experience a little of what our sponsorship funds are doing first hand," Scott said.

"SMC is proud to assist Foodbank WA and the Operation Rest Team doing their terrific work in building important relationships in often difficult circumstances."

According to Foodbank Partnerships and Communications Manager David Warren, the packs proved pivotal in building positive relationships between children and representatives of the Police and DCP.

"SMC's support will greatly assist us grow our Academy to promote sport for fun and fitness, while also allowing participants the opportunities to further their chosen sport, whether as a player, coach, umpire or sports trainer," Damien said.

Operation Reset is focused on reducing abuse in Midwest and Gascoyne communities by building trust with residents to encourage the reporting of offences. The care packages which are distributed in remote communities are designed to assist in the reporting of child sex abuse.
