Green Light for Koolanooka/Blue Hills Project
Sinosteel Midwest Corporation is pleased to announce that the Western Australian Minister for Environment has given final State environmental approval for the Koolanooka/Blue Hills Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) project in the Mid West region. The decision clears the way for the project to proceed to Federal environmental approval. This process is expected to take approximately 30 days, with development activities scheduled to commence in mid December. Sinosteel Midwest Chief Operating Officer Giulio Casello said final State approval was the culmination of over three years of environmental assessment in consultation with the State Government.

Sinosteel Midwest welcomes Environment Minister's decision on appeals for Koolanooka project
Sinosteel Midwest Corporation today welcomed the Environment Minister's appeal determination for its Koolanooka/Blue Hills Direct Shipping Ore Project. Her decision progresses the Project forward, allows finalisation of environmental conditions, and moves directly to consultation with key Government Ministers and authorities to finalise approvals. The Minister's decision follows the recent appeals process which saw 144 submissions calling for full approval of the Project. The appeals were in response to the EPA recommendations that mining in a portion of the project area, Mungada East, should not go ahead in order to preserve an already degraded, very small outlying portion of the Mungada Ridge. Sinosteel Midwest Chief Operating Officer Giulio Casello said the Company was pleased with the Ministers determination on the grounds of appeal.

Overwhelming support for Koolanooka/Blue Hills project
Sinosteel Midwest Corporation is pleased to announce that 144 appeals in support of full approval of its Koolanooka/Blue Hill (Mungada) Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) Project have been received by the Appeals Convenor. Of the 148 appeals received, only three appeals were made against the project and one appeal related to a nearby project. This amounts to approximately 97% of appellants in support of full approval of Sinosteel Midwest's Koolanooka/Blue Hills project.

Sinosteel Midwest appeals EPA recommendations
Sinosteel Midwest Corporation today confirmed it will be appealing against the Environmental Protection Authority's (EPA) failure to recommend part of its Koolanooka/Blue Hills (Mungada) Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) Project for Ministerial approval. Sinosteel Midwest Chief Operating Officer Giulio Casello said the company has thoroughly reviewed the EPA's Report with its environmental consultants and believes there are a number of strong grounds for appeal.

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) released its Report for the project on Tuesday, and failed to recommend approval of Mungada East mine which is integral to the project proceeding economically.

The EPA was considering Sinosteel Midwest's Public Environmental Review (PER) proposal for the project which involves the crushing, haulage and shipment of ore at Koolanooka (2 million tonnes) and Mungada (3.8 million tonnes) over a 5‐year project life.
